Come to Pitzhanger for a special Teachers’ CPD session in partnership with the University of West London.
This special free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session for teachers and educators in all key stages explores how to use local cultural hubs, like Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, as teaching resources across the curriculum. It’ll be a great opportunity to network with local teachers who are looking to support their students and develop their educational and cultural capital by engaging with their local university.
We really hope you can join us to discuss and explore this work in a fun, supportive environment with like-minded educators and practitioners.
In collaboration with the University of West London, this CPD session invites educators to explore themes of aiming high, teamwork, and resilience, inspired by the upcoming exhibition The Pride of England.
Participants will join a workshop and hands-on activity led by artist practitioner Lewis McVey, designed to equip teachers with creative tools to engage students with the exhibition. Attendees will also receive a tailored resource pack to share with staff teams and integrate into classroom practice, ensuring the session’s impact continues beyond the day.
“I want this exhibition to show that art is for everyone. Football brings people together, and art can do the same. It’s about giving people the opportunity to express themselves and connect,” Matt Small.
In the next segment, UWL expert Dr. Robert Vaughan will explore themes of sports psychology, focusing on their application to other areas of learning, such as team cohesion, focus, and motivation.
This session is open to teachers and educators in any key stage and subject. Educators working in out-of-school and informal learning settings are also welcome to attend.
Light refreshments will be provided in this session, and there is a scheduled time for networking towards the end of the session.

Matt Small is an acclaimed London-based artist whose work explores themes of identity, diversity, and community. Known for his innovative use of materials, Small has collaborated with the Football Association on projects such as This is England for EURO 2020, celebrating the diversity of the England football team. His Three Lions sculptures bring communities together through art, showing how strength lies in unity and shared creativity – we would love for your learners to be able to view the work, and see Chloe’s portrait displayed.
