Join us for a special screening of The South Bank Show: Anthony Caro at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, 39 years after the episode was first shown on British television on 24th June 1984.
Filmed by Nigel Wattis in the year of Caro’s 60th birthday exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery and hosted by Melvyn Bragg, this documentary features interviews with Caro and visits to his studios in London and in the country to see works in progress.
Screened alongside Pitzhanger’s current exhibition, Anthony Caro: The Inspiration of Architecture, this is a unique opportunity to hear Caro’s thoughts on how we can approach viewing and understanding abstract art, bringing conversations that have been hidden in archives for many years back to life.
First aired in 1978, the South Bank Show was a longstanding, popular British arts television show broadcast on the ITV network for over 30 years before its cancellation in 2010. The show sought to celebrate and interrogate both ‘high’ and popular art forms, both home-grown and from across the globe.
The screening will begin at 6.30 pm. 50 min. English subtitles.
Every Thursday, experience the enchanting ambience of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery with FREE admission starting from 5 pm. Join us for a diverse range of events, including engaging art workshops, captivating concerts, serene yoga sessions, and insightful talks by acclaimed artists.
