On Thursday 22 April join us in conversation with Miles Young, Warden of New College, Oxford.
After Oxford, Miles Young has spent his illustrious career in advertising and marketing, most recently as Chairman and CEO of Ogilvy & Mather Asia. Miles will discuss his life and work, from the changing landscape of advertising to his lifelong support of the arts, including sponsorship of the Geoffrey Bawa award for architecture in Sri Lanka, restoration of a château built for Louis XV, and recent roles as President of the Oxford Literary Festival and Chair of The English Speaking Union.
Miles Young headed up one of the world’s most storied advertising agencies, Ogilvy & Mather. He will discuss his career, about the personality of the founder of the agency, David Ogilvy, and about the experience of working in advertising in different parts of the world as in the heyday of globalisation. The conversation will touch on what it is like to lead a creative organisation, and what particular skills of leadership there are for bringing out creativity in people.
Miles Young will also answer questions on the digital revolution, which has transformed the landscape for advertising – its origins, its impact, and the issues it creates for the industry. He will speak on the challenges of dealing with social media today, and, as the recently elected Chair of the English Speaking Union, and what broader lessons there are for communication for today’s young people.
Sir John Soane used Pitzhanger Manor to entertain his wide circle of friends, celebrities and potential clients, bringing together opera singers and politicians, academics and poets at eclectic dinners. Inspired by this spirit of Pitzhanger as a forum for interesting encounters and enlightening debate, Pitzhanger Perspectives is a new series of conversations with contemporary thinkers. This first set of talks will be in conversation with Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, Chair of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery Trust.
