Pitzhanger Late: Paper Playscape Sculptures

Overview

Children often encounter opportunities for play in different environments. Are there any spaces like this for adults? Could you imagine a space in which you might like to play?  Inspired by Child’s Tower Room, the centre piece of Anthony Caro: The Inspiration of Architecture, artist Emily Hopkins invites you to design a fun and playful space for adults using paper sculpture and manipulation.

About the artist

Emily is an artist and arts educator working in London. She has delivered workshops in different educational settings including the National Gallery, October Gallery, Lauderdale House, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Bow Arts Trust, Grand Junction and more. Her aim is to plan and deliver workshops with fresh perspectives on arts education by working across a number of disciplines, proposing thoughtful questions and starting points and allowing students to play, experiment and reflect meaningfully on their work.

As an artist, Emily looks at the natural environment, how environments interact with one another and how we interact with the environment around us. The importance of materials, processes and our interactions with them is also fundamental to her practice. She works with a range of materials and techniques to create work including drawing, print, collage, wood, ceramics and textiles.
