About Jigsaw Heritage – a display by Jaixia Blue
“I think the most important thing for anyone is to feel seen and heard, and I want to empower myself and others to see themselves through the stories I express through my art.”
Jigsaw Heritage is a collection of printed textiles (screen printed and digital) which tell the personal story of Jaixia’s dual British and Caribbean heritage, as well as the unique life experience of her grandmother. The project examines Jamaica through her grandmother’s now fractured lens, and journey to London toward the end of the Windrush period. The Windrush generation refers to those who travelled to the UK from Caribbean countries between the period of 1948 to 1973, in order to strengthen Britain’s labour force after the Second World War.
