Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is proud to collaborate with Ealing Film Festival again this year, hosting an enlightening talk with David Leach, the festival’s Animation category judge. The festival will present this event as a lively Q&A, with Florian Stephens, a senior lecturer at the University of West London, leading the discourse and posing insightful questions.
David Leach, a connoisseur of comics and animation, is the Animation Judge for the Ealing Film Festival 2023. With a diverse career encompassing roles such as cartoonist, writer, 3D animator, and currently, Senior Creative Editor at Titan Comics, David brings a wealth of knowledge from the animation and comic industry. His comprehensive experience and enduring passion for animated arts stem from a childhood immersed in iconic cartoons and comics, laying the foundation for his multifaceted career. David’s extensive contributions extend from creating comic strips to editing acclaimed adaptations, making him a respected figure in the field.
Florian Stephens is a Senior Lecturer, Artist, and Doctoral Researcher at the University of West London where he teaches 3D computer animation on the BSc Visual Effects course. With a background in fine art, Florian brings the creative curiosity of the artist to bear on his research and teaching in the field of Reality Capture which involves digital 3D scanning. Florian’s work explores the connections formed by scanning between physical form and digital computer models. His scan artwork produces digital sculptures created by the disruption from hard-to-scan objects, spaces, and materials which challenges the perception of a 3D scan as a perfect replica. As both an artist and researcher, he is interested in digital animation and notions of realism prevalent across technologies of capture, such as photography, and computer-generated images.
