‘A thrilling, picaresque tale of London life’ – Evening Standard
Three-time Booker nominee and author of the recently dramatised Mayflies, Andrew O’Hagan joins us to talk about his highly acclaimed, state-of-the-nation epic Caledonian Road which tells the story of one man’s dramatic fall from grace.
Art historian and celebrity intellectual Campbell Flynn has a charmed life, until he falls under the spell of one of his students, Milo, who leads him to question everything he has previously thought about the world. Meticulously researched over ten years, the novel is set against a backdrop of shady Russian oligarchs, disgraced aristocrats, drill gangs, human traffickers and an angry sitting tenant as it offers a panoramic view of contemporary British life.
Andrew O’Hagan is one of the leading writers of his generation. He has been nominated three times for the Booker Prize, was named one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 2003, and has won the EM Forster Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is Editor-at-Large of the London Review of Books and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He was recently appointed Honorary Professor at Glasgow University.
The aim of Ealing Book Festival is to celebrate the joy of reading and to advance engagement and education around literature and reading.
