We invite you to commemorate the milestone of Descendants’ 30 years of service to the community with the exhibition at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. Founded in 1993, Descendants is a community-driven organisation that encourages young people, especially those of African and Caribbean descent, aged between 4 to 16, to delve into history, art, and culture. Through various programmes and creative partnerships, Descendants nurtures creativity and cultivates an understanding of diverse cultures and traditions.
In February 2023, a group of children and young people collaborated on a creative project at Pitzhanger led by practitioner Candice Rodney-Sobers. The young artists embarked on a journey of self-discovery through different artistic techniques, drawing inspiration from Sir John Soane’s architectural aesthetics and design philosophy.
The exhibition reflects the young artists’ exploration of their identities, origins, and self-perceptions. The art pieces showcase various art forms and techniques, including drawing, painting, collage-making, textile creation, and dyeing.
Join us in this celebration of community, creativity, and cultural exploration. Let the “Descendants” exhibition take you on a journey through time, art, and personal narratives, showcasing our local community’s vibrant and diverse artistic talents.
