Help Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery in their aim to permanently acquire Julian Opie’s Curly Hair.

Julian Opie’s Curly Hair has become a recognisable icon of the community in Ealing, encouraging inquisitive passersby to visit Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery. We need your help to make Opie’s digital work a permanent landmark in Ealing, and to kickstart the beginnings of an exciting contemporary collection at Pitzhanger.

Pitzhanger has a growing collection which we have been building through acquisitions, such as the set of ten architectural engravings of the Villa Negroni, which the Art Fund bequeathed to Pitzhanger. Our cultural programme revolves around the restoration of Sir John Soane’s architecture and a series of contemporary exhibitions by artists who share the interests and values of Soane, displayed across the gallery and neoclassical manor. Exhibitions include work by Anish Kapoor, Anthony Caro, and currently Idris Khan and Annie Morris.

The long term loan of Curly Hair since 2021 has been a great success; the figure of the walking man in modern garb works as a contemporary contrast to the classical caryatids which stand above the façade of Pitzhanger Manor. This work has the potential to become a permanent landmark in Ealing, free to visit and for all to enjoy!
